Wiidosem Carrick House Program
Carrick House Training Programs - is new and will be operated partially in the new house donated to Moffat's RMYC and will be used to run several cultural Wiidosem programs including the Life Skills developed from the Oola Life Coach Model. The RMYC and Moffat run the facility and Wiidosem would be a partner organization that supports programs and facilitates programs.
Purpose -To empower youth socially and culturally so they can gain experience in trades craft, learn about their culture and create cultural items and crafts to help them succeed and build a better future for themselves and a better quality of life. Also to introduce them to a work ethic and study ethic so they can compete in post-secondary and the labour force when that time comes and be successful.
Indigenous Cultural Programming – Elders from the community will be brought in to conduct workshops on language, ceremony, crafting and other cultural teachings twice a month. There will also be opportunities for Youth to work on cultural projects throughout the week. Supplies will be provided to them free of charge. Elders and facilitators will be paid an honorarium.
A youth Drumming Group will be formed and there will be an opportunity to drum weekly once in-person gatherings are allowed.
Trades Skills – construction, landscaping, renovation and light plumbing skills will be the subjects in various workshops held once a month where trades people will come in and teach the Youth various aspects of the Trades and give them a project (Individual and Group) to complete by summer break. Workshops will take place bi-monthly and a new subject will be explored each month.
Carrick House - Drop-In Centre, Emergency Shelter and Training Centre
This facility will also be a Drop-In Centre, an emergency shelter for Youth in transition and/or crisis and it will be one of main Training Centres for Wiidosem.
